Educational research and detracking: a parent’s guide to understanding more - with Dr. Eric Isenberg

Updated: Mar 2, 2020

POSTPONED – The Monday March, 9th E3 Expert Lecture with Dr. Eric Isbenberg Educational research and detracking: a parent’s guide to understanding more has been postponed to a later date due to a schedule conflict. We’ll repost the event once a new day and time is determined. Thanks for your patience.

Do today’s messages from educators have you feeling like you missed a grade? What justifies the use of the term “evidence-based” in education? You’re invited to the next outreach event in the E3 Expert Lecture Series Monday, March 9th at 7:00 pm in the Barbara Hall Meeting Room, River Forest Public Library.

Dr. Eric Isenberg will lead a conversation on how to interpret educational research, including discussions on the revolution in standards for educational research, and how researchers try to answer the question “will a new educational program help students?” Then he’ll discuss the research suggesting why OPRF’s plan to detrack freshman year may or may not produce its desired outcomes, and examine the evidence around freshman-year detracking.

Dr. Isenberg holds a PhD in economics from Washington University in St. Louis. He has used randomized controlled trials to measure the educational effectiveness of Teach For America, teacher mentoring programs, literacy curricula, and other educational interventions, and has partnered with urban school districts to measure teacher effectiveness. A 1986 graduate of OPRF, he lives in River Forest with his wife and three daughters.
